Methacrylate Adhesives

Monolith is a range of high quality adhesives used in a wide variety of industrial and domestic applications. They are effective in bonding a wide range of materials including metals, plastics and laminates and are easy to use. Monolith adhesives are available in a variety of formulations, including single component and two component, to achieve permanent bonds between different materials.

A special group of adhesives for rapid bonding of plastics. Adhesives based on modified methyl methacrylate (MMA) are used for very strong and permanent bonding.

They can bond laminates, polycarbonate, PMMA (plexiglass), ABS and even metals without any preparation. They can withstand operating temperatures up to 130°C. They give strengths up to 300 kg/cm².

Bonding with these adhesives has many advantages over other bonding techniques:

  • Bonding of different materials with optimum use of their specific properties.
  • Load transfer over the entire surface, combined with uniform stress distribution.
  • Sealing of the joint against liquids and gases.
  • Prevention of contact corrosion due to the insulating effect of the adhesive.
  • Avoidance of material damage due to thermal changes in the structure or stress concentrations at the apertures.
  • Maintaining good surface quality, avoiding discolouration or deformation of parts.
  • Wide range of moulding options combined with weight reduction compared to other bonding methods.
  • Cold cure.
  • Gain functional strength quickly.
    Are highly durable.
  • Resistant to ageing.

MONOLITH – KLEJE METAKRYLOWE

Thanks to their properties, Monolith methacrylate adhesives are used in a number of industries such as

– Boat and yacht building
– Vehicle construction
– Wind tower construction,
– Manufacture of metal and plastic structures.

A very good example of the use of Monolith methacrylate adhesives is in the construction of yachts and boats made of polyester-glass laminates. Adhesive joints, replacing the previously used laminate joints, have not only reduced labour intensity, but above all have increased the operational qualities of the vessels.

Boats bonded with Monolith methacrylate adhesives are more resistant to dynamic loads from waves. They dampen vibrations, improving sailing comfort and prolonging the life of equipment.

The wide range of structural and technological parameters of Monolith methacrylate adhesives allows them to be used in a wide variety of construction solutions.

Adhesive lifetimes range from a few minutes to tens of minutes and over 100 minutes. Some adhesives allow to fill gaps up to 37 mm.

An important characteristic of these adhesives is their elasticity. However, when considering this parameter, it is the magnitude of the Young’s modulus (from less than 100 to more than 1,000 MPa) that should be taken into account, rather than the elongation at break parameter.

The excellent impact and fatigue resistance, as well as the high bonding capacity between metals and plastics, contribute to the increasing use of methacrylate adhesives in the construction of all types of vehicles, means of transport and, more recently, in the construction of wind towers.

In addition to high mechanical parameters, Monolith methacrylate adhesives are characterised by high resistance to chemicals, oils, humidity, water and UV radiation.
